Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort in Waikkal, Sri Lanka, was honored to take part in the “Sri Lankan Ayurveda Evening” held on 2 July 2025 at the Goeres Hotel in Luxembourg. The event was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Brussels and the Union Luxembourgeoise de Tourisme (ULT), with the aim of promoting Sri Lanka as a leading wellness tourism destination in Europe.

The evening gathered over 70 participants, including travel writers, travel agents, and wellness enthusiasts interested in authentic Ayurveda. In her welcome address, Ms. Lydia Heinisch, Executive Director of ULT, highlighted that this collaboration would serve as a valuable platform to strengthen connections between Sri Lanka’s wellness tourism sector and the Luxembourgish travel industry.

H.E. Chandana Weerasena, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Luxembourg, shared insights into Sri Lanka’s long-standing Ayurvedic heritage and the country’s indigenous medical traditions. He noted that Sri Lankan Ayurveda has continued to evolve, integrating scientific evidence and modern approaches, and invited guests to discover the island’s unique healing traditions and rejuvenating wellness experiences.

The event also featured a presentation by Prof. Kamal Perera, Founder Dean of the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine at the University of Colombo and Executive Member of the Sri Lanka Ayurveda Medical Council under the Ministry of Health. He spoke about the history and philosophy of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka, illustrating how travelers can experience this ancient wisdom through nature retreats, culture, and wholesome cuisine.

During a live demonstration, Prof. Perera showcased traditional Ayurvedic massage techniques using oils and herbal compresses. Guests experienced short head, foot, and shoulder massages, Marma therapy (vital energy point massage), and even a brief pulse diagnosis, which drew great fascination for its accuracy and depth.

As an interactive element, participants completed a short questionnaire to identify their individual dosha type—Vata, Pitta, or Kapha. Based on their results, they received Sri Lankan spices and herbs to create a personalized herbal tea blend matching their body constitution. This thoughtful activity offered a tangible way to experience Ayurveda’s practical wisdom.

The evening concluded with a traditional Sri Lankan dinner, leaving guests with a deeper appreciation for Sri Lanka’s holistic wellness culture, rich heritage, and natural healing traditions. Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort is proud to have contributed to this inspiring initiative to share the spirit of authentic Sri Lankan Ayurveda with the European audience.
